OUR MISSION

We are scientists, explorers, and divers who use research and education to support the conservation of marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. We lead expeditions and conduct inclusive research with local stakeholders to develop data-driven solutions to challenges facing fish populations. Our mission is to foster coexistence between people and wildlife through rigorous research, collaboration, and innovative approaches.

Sally is an applied fisheries ecologist and PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her work draws on natural and social science methods to address challenges facing marine predators, fisheries, and coastal communities. She brings over a decade of experience in marine research spanning temperate to tropical environments.

She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Berkeley where she conducted work on coral reef ecosystems, coastal sharks, and mesopelagic fishes. She then worked as a research technician in the Nye lab collecting estuarine fish, running temperature experiments in the lab, and learning quantitative skills.

Sally prioritizes stakeholder engagement in her research and is particularly interested in understanding human-wildlife interactions. As an interdisciplinary scientist, Explorers Club member, and AAUS Scientific and PADI Rescue diver, Sally is excited to bring her experience and passion for marine conservation to Twin Fins Alliance. See links for additional background and her publications.

Diana is a marine biologist, professional diver, and shark specialist with nearly a decade of hands-on experience working with sharks. She earned her B.S. in Marine Science and Biology from the University of Miami and has worked in Florida’s ecotourism industry ever since.

A certified divemaster, freedive instructor, and professional shark diver and underwater photographer with Florida Shark Diving, Diana uses in-water experiences as a platform for education and conservation. Her work has taken her from the Maldives and the Red Sea to the shark-filled waters of The Bahamas.

She brings extensive shark behavioral knowledge to support long-term monitoring and research and is passionate about advancing science to further conservation.

Outside the water, Diana is also a yoga instructor who believes strongly in the connection between personal well-being and environmental stewardship. She loves helping people deepen their relationship with themselves, the ocean, and the natural world.

John All, JD, PhD, is a global explorer and geoscientist, specializing in climate change research in remote locations and is the author of Icefall: Adventures at the Wild Edges of our Dangerous, Changing Planet.  NPR called John a ‘Badass for Science’ and Outside magazine dubbed him the ‘Indiana Jones of Climate Science’. A lifetime Fellow of the Explorers Club and Fulbright Senior Scholar, All is the Executive Director of the American Climber Science Program (www.climberscience.com), which brings together scientists from many disciplines, along with students and mountaineers, to expand global research in remote locations.

He went to Duke University for his undergraduate degree, holds a Doctorate in Geography, Applied Anthropology, and Global Environmental Change from the University of Arizona, and also a Juris Doctorate in International Environmental Law and a Master’s Certificate in Environmental Ethics from the University of Georgia. He served as a Program Officer for the Climate Change and Human Health Initiative at the United Nations, was the Founding Director of the Mountain Environments Research Institute at Western Washington University, and is the author of more than forty published scientific works.

Dr. All is broadly focused on fragile, indicator environments, in particular the world’s highest mountains, where changing climate has profound consequences. He is an advocate for adaptive strategies to cope with changes now occurring and his research is focused on hard science that informs public discourse. His work combines remote sensing change detection techniques with local stakeholder interviews and mixed methods data generation and analysis to examine adaptation strategies in areas undergoing environmental change.
